Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. We offer a program of study leading to a Doctor of Philosophy degree, producing graduates who are capable of competing succesfully in today's challenging research environment.

The department is dynamic and well equipped, yet small enough in size to provide the student with ample opportunity for scientific and personal interaction with faculty. All of the faculty members have active research programs, and many have achieved national and international recognition. Areas of research include: the physical biochemistry of nucleic acids and proteins, enzymology, protein chemistry, mechanisms of regulation of gene expression, cell biology, and regulation of protein synthesis.
